The Spirit Wars Against the Flesh

I say then; Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. Galatians 5:16-17

Focus on Christ

Flesh is everything that the Spirit is not. Your sinful nature is what Paul referred to as your flesh. Any thought, attitude, or action that goes against God’s spiritual standard is sin. How do you win over sin? Does your flesh give you trouble?

Waling in the Spirit makes it impossible to walk in the flesh. To remain faithful to God, you must realize this is a spiritual walk. Acting spiritual is a work of the flesh. Walking in the Spirit signifies being led by the Spirit and living in the Spirit. 

Flesh wars against the Spirit. The one you submit to is the one who has the most influence. These two cannot co-exist. The flesh tries to destroy the Spirit and the Spirit seeks to destroy the flesh. Only God’s Spirit can dominate, control, rule, and master our fleshly nature.

Focus on Self

It is impossible for self to will, wish, determine, or resolve itself to be spiritual. To live in the Spirit you must walk in the Ways of the Spirit. If you are inconsistent in reading and applying God’s Word, then you are not living in the Spirit. Resist your flesh and obey Christ daily.
